What is it for?

The document import is used to quickly create a formatted document or content item.

Saving time using the document import

You can create a Document or content item from scratch in Blueriq, but you can also be off to a running start by importing an existing .docx document. Organizations often already have detailed templates of the documents that are involved in their business processes. In that case, the easiest way to a new Document is to import a docx-file into Blueriq Encore. During the import process, you can map the various styles that the import wizard detects in the source document onto pre-defined content styles and presentation styles in Blueriq, which may save a lot of time and facilitates a cooperation between the business and business engineer.

You can save even more time by 'cleaning' the source docx document before import: make sure all paragraphs, headings, ... that look the same, actually have the same style.

In Microsoft Word, you can use the Format Painter to copy and paste styles, as can be seen in the image on the right.

Importing a .docx document

Follow these steps to create a document or content item by importing a .docx document:

  1. Open a repository and branch in Blueriq Encore.
  2. Select the branch fron the navigation menu and choose: 'Import document'
  3. In the selection step:
    1. Use the 'Upload docx file'-button to select the source document from your file system.
      1. If Blueriq detects styles in the docx-file that are not supported, e.g. mathematical formulas, it will show this after selecting the file in a blue info box. You will be able to proceed, but the unsupported styles will be ignored.
    2. Choose whether you want to convert the source document to a document or content item.
    3. Provide a sensible name for the target document or content item.
    4. Choose a project, module, and language in which you want the target element to be created.
  4. In the preview step:
    1. Match content styles and presentation styles from the docx document to styles in the Blueriq document.

When you select a style it will be highlighted in the document preview and vice versa. You may want to switch Encore to light mode for increasedreadability.

    2. Check the styles that act as parent node; this will create a hierarchy in your document which will make it easier to maintain.
  5. Now select 'Import' and the created document or content item will open in the background.
